Overview

Google Maps is not a tenant-connectable integration in MessageMind. There is no card on /integrations, no OAuth, and no API key for a customer to paste. The only shipped use of Google Maps lives inside one tenant-specific custom integration (a transport quote calculator), which reads a platform-level MAPS_API_KEY environment variable on the server. If that env var is unset, the calculator short-circuits and no map call is made.

What MessageMind can do with it

  • Resolve a driving route between a pickup and a drop-off through Google's Routes and Directions APIs, inside the tenant-specific transport quote calculator (calculateTipTapTransportQuote).

Requirements

  • A platform-level MAPS_API_KEY environment variable set on the deployment, with access to the Google Maps APIs the custom integration calls (Routes and Directions).
  • The tenant-specific custom integration that actually calls into Google Maps. No other code path in MessageMind consumes the key today.

Authentication and permissions

Mechanism
No tenant-side authentication. The Google Maps key is a platform-level credential: the server reads MAPS_API_KEY from the environment and passes it as the key query parameter on the Directions call and as the X-Goog-Api-Key header on the Routes call.
Credentials
No credentials are collected in the dashboard. MAPS_API_KEY is set once on the deployment by an operator.

Available data and actions

Reads

  • Google's Routes and Directions APIs, called from the tenant-specific transport quote calculator with the configured MAPS_API_KEY.

AI agent use cases

  • The tenant-specific transport quote calculator asks Google Maps for the route between two addresses so it can price a transport quote off the resulting distance.

Limitations

  • Google Maps is not exposed as a general tenant feature. The only code path that uses MAPS_API_KEY is one tenant's custom transport quote calculator; other accounts see no behaviour change whether the key is set or not.
  • If MAPS_API_KEY is missing on the deployment, the custom integration that depends on it exits early without calling Google.
  • Country and timezone resolution for the marketing site and the booking funnel come from the first-party geo layer (edge IP with timezone and language heuristics as fallback), not from Google Maps.

Troubleshooting

Where is the Google Maps card on /integrations?

There is no card. Google Maps is not a tenant-connectable integration in MessageMind; the only shipped use is inside one tenant-specific custom integration that reads MAPS_API_KEY from the deployment.

How do I pass my own Google Maps API key to MessageMind?

You do not. The key is a platform-level MAPS_API_KEY environment variable set by an operator on the deployment, not a per-tenant credential. If your workflow needs mapping or routing, raise it with the MessageMind product team as a Custom Integration.

A transport quote comes back without a distance.

The custom calculator short-circuits when MAPS_API_KEY is unset or when the Google call fails. Confirm the env var is set on the deployment and that the key has access to the Routes and Directions APIs.
