Overview

Squarespace Commerce connects to MessageMind through a standard OAuth install. Once a merchant approves the app on their Squarespace site, the AI holds a per-site refresh token that it uses to mint short-lived access tokens on demand, pulls the full product catalog on connect and keeps it in step with a daily poll.

What MessageMind can do with it

  • Install on any Squarespace site through the standard OAuth authorization-code flow with a signed state and a 10-minute TTL.
  • Mint and rotate access tokens automatically from the stored refresh token, refreshing a few minutes before Squarespace-reported expiry.
  • Import every visible product (and variant) from the Squarespace Products API during the initial connect, split into simple and variable buckets for the AI model.
  • Keep the catalog in step through a scheduled poll (Squarespace has no product webhooks, so this is the only correct mechanism to catch product changes and deletions).

Requirements

  • A Squarespace site with Commerce enabled.
  • The MessageMind Squarespace app, installed by the merchant through the dashboard-initiated OAuth flow.

How to connect

  1. In the MessageMind dashboard, open Integrations and select Squarespace.
  2. Start the connect flow; MessageMind redirects you to Squarespace's authorize page with a signed state carrying your account id.
  3. Approve the permissions. Squarespace redirects back to MessageMind with an authorization code.
  4. MessageMind exchanges the code for an access and refresh token pair and stores them against your account.
  5. The initial catalog import runs and the daily sync schedule is enrolled.

Authentication and permissions

Mechanism
OAuth 2.0 authorization-code grant against login.squarespace.com, with offline access requested so a refresh token is returned. Access tokens are short-lived (~30 minutes) and refreshed on demand from the stored refresh token.
Credentials
Access token, refresh token and token-expiry timestamp per site, stored on your tenant.

Required scopes

  • website.products
  • website.products.read

Available data and actions

Reads

  • All visible products in the site's catalog, with their variants, through the Squarespace Products API.

Writes

  • Nothing is written to the storefront. MessageMind reads the catalog only.

AI agent use cases

  • A shopper asks about a product on a channel MessageMind is listening on; the AI quotes details from the synced Squarespace catalog.
  • A merchant adds, edits or removes a product on Squarespace; the next daily sync picks it up and the AI's view of the catalog reflects it.

Configuration

  • Product sync is a per-site toggle on the integration document (settings.syncProducts), off by default on a fresh connect.
  • The daily poll is enrolled centrally; the sync interval is not merchant-configurable.

Example workflows

Install and import

  1. Merchant starts the connect flow in MessageMind.
  2. Squarespace renders its consent screen for the website.products scopes.
  3. On approval, MessageMind receives the authorization code and exchanges it for an access and refresh token pair.
  4. MessageMind fetches every visible product and variant and splits them into simple and variable products for the AI model.
  5. The site is enrolled in the daily sync pass so later product changes are reconciled on the schedule.

Limitations

  • Squarespace's Webhook Subscriptions API does not publish any product topics (only order.*, contact.*, address.* and extension.uninstall), so product changes cannot be pushed in real time; the daily poll is the only correct mechanism.
  • The integration imports only products marked visible; hidden products are skipped.
  • Disconnecting in MessageMind disables the integration locally but does not revoke the OAuth grant on the Squarespace side; the merchant has to remove the app from their Squarespace account for that.

Troubleshooting

The connect fails with 'state expired'.

The signed state is valid for 10 minutes. Restart the connect flow from the MessageMind dashboard.

Catalog reads stop working after a long gap.

The refresh token may have been invalidated by uninstalling the app on Squarespace. Reconnect from the MessageMind dashboard to issue a fresh pair.

A product edit in Squarespace does not appear in MessageMind immediately.

Squarespace does not emit product webhooks; changes are picked up by the daily sync. Wait for the next scheduled pass.

Disconnect and reconnect

  • In the MessageMind dashboard, open Integrations, Squarespace and choose Disconnect. The integration is marked Disabled and the stored tokens are retained but no longer used.
  • To fully revoke access on the Squarespace side, remove the MessageMind app from your Squarespace account.
  • To reconnect, re-run the OAuth flow from the MessageMind dashboard; previously imported catalog data stays on your account.
