Walk through the Connect Facebook Messenger flow from Continue with Facebook to the connected Page.
Overview
Integrate Facebook Messenger to engage with your customers on the most popular social media platform, ensuring prompt and efficient communication. The connect flow is Meta's: sign in with Facebook, pick the Pages you want MessageMind to answer on, and the AI runs from inside each Page's inbox using the Page's own identity.
What MessageMind can do with it
- Answer every Messenger message the moment it lands on the Page, around the clock, without a human picking it up first.
- Reply inside the same Messenger thread as the Page, using the Page's own identity.
- Follow up on Lead Ads submissions directly in Messenger as soon as the form is submitted, with the ad and ad-account context attached.
- Reply to comments on the Page's posts in the voice of the Page, keeping conversation moving under the post.
- Receive the full Messenger event set (deliveries, reads, edits, reactions, postbacks, opt-ins, referrals, account linking, handover and standby) so the AI can react in context.
Requirements
- A Facebook account that has an admin role on the Page you want to connect.
- At least one Facebook Page on that account. Accounts with zero Pages cannot complete the connection.
- The Facebook Page is owned by a Meta Business Account (Business Portfolio) with no outstanding issues.
How to connect
- Open MessageMind and go to /channels/facebook. You will see the Connect Facebook Messenger card.
- Click Continue with Facebook. Meta's popup opens.
- Sign in to Facebook, pick the Business account that owns the Page, and grant the requested permissions when prompted.
- Meta redirects back to MessageMind. The card flips to Connected with Messenger and shows the Connected Facebook Page under it.
- If you granted MessageMind more than one Page, each one appears with its own on/off toggle so you can control which Pages the AI is live on.
Authentication and permissions
- Mechanism
- Facebook Login OAuth. The browser returns an authorisation code to MessageMind, which exchanges it for a long-lived access token used for every call to the Facebook Graph API.
- Credentials
- A single token issued by Facebook for the connecting user. The token is stored on your MessageMind tenant and used server-side; Page-specific tokens are derived from it and never exposed to the browser.
Available data and actions
Reads
- The list of Facebook Pages the connecting user administers, including each Page's name and profile picture.
- Each Page's linked Instagram business account, when one exists.
- The Lead Ads forms attached to each Page, and the ad and ad-account each lead came from, for lead attribution.
- Incoming Messenger events on every subscribed Page: messages, deliveries, reads, echoes, edits, reactions, postbacks, opt-ins, referrals, account linking, handovers and standby.
- Page feed events, so the AI sees new comments on the Page's posts.
Writes
- Replies posted into Messenger threads as the connected Page.
- Replies posted to comments on the Page's posts.
- Webhook subscription state on each Page: subscribing enables real-time events, unsubscribing stops them.
AI agent use cases
- Answer every Messenger message the moment it lands on the Page, around the clock, without a human picking it up first.
- Follow up on Lead Ads submissions in Messenger as soon as the form is submitted, with full ad and ad-account context attached.
- Reply to comments on Page posts in the voice of the Page, keeping conversation flowing on the post itself.
- Pause the AI on a specific Page by unsubscribing it, without disconnecting Facebook from the rest of your account.
Configuration
- The connection stores one Facebook account per MessageMind user. Reconnecting replaces the previously stored token and Page list.
- Each Page carries its own on/off toggle. Turning a Page off unsubscribes the webhook for that Page only; other Pages stay live.
- Pages added to your Facebook account after you connect appear in MessageMind the next time the connected Pages view loads, and start out unsubscribed until you turn them on.
- Pages removed from your Facebook account are dropped from MessageMind the next time the connected Pages view loads.
Example workflows
Connect a new Page and go live
- Open the channels area in MessageMind and start the Facebook connection.
- Sign in with Facebook and grant access to the Pages you want on.
- MessageMind loads each Page, subscribes it to the required message and feed events, and stores the Page tokens on your tenant.
- The Pages appear in MessageMind, each with a subscription toggle. New messages on any enabled Page flow to the AI immediately.
Reply to a Lead Ads submission in Messenger
- A customer submits one of the Page's Lead Ads forms.
- MessageMind receives the leadgen event with the form, the ad and the ad account attached.
- The AI opens a Messenger thread with the lead on the Page and starts the follow-up conversation with the full ad context.
Limitations
- Connection requires at least one Facebook Page on the authorising account. Accounts with no Pages cannot proceed.
- If the stored access token is invalidated or expires on Facebook's side, incoming events stop and MessageMind surfaces an invalid-token state until you reconnect.
- Only one Facebook connection is kept per MessageMind user. Starting a new connection replaces the existing one.
Troubleshooting
The connection flow finishes but no Pages appear.
Facebook returned zero Pages for the authorising account. Confirm the account has at least one Page it administers, then reconnect.
Messages stop arriving on a Page that used to work.
Open the connected Pages view in MessageMind. If MessageMind flags the token as invalid or expired, reconnect Facebook. If a specific Page shows as unsubscribed, toggle it back on to re-subscribe its webhook.
A Page is missing from the MessageMind list even though it exists on Facebook.
Reload the connected Pages view. MessageMind refetches your Pages from Facebook and adds any that appeared since the last refresh; new Pages start unsubscribed until you turn them on.
Disconnect and reconnect
- On /channels/facebook, click Disconnect. The confirmation modal says: 'When you disconnect, all your data will be permanently deleted from MessageMind, including any associated messages and information stored in our system. Additionally, we will revoke the authorization you have granted us from Facebook, which means we will no longer have access to your Facebook data or messages.'
- To stop one Page without disconnecting Facebook entirely, use the per-Page toggle in the connected Pages list instead. Its webhook subscription is cleared and the AI stops acting on it; sibling Pages keep running.
- To reconnect, click Continue with Facebook again. A fresh token is issued and your Pages are re-subscribed to the message and feed events; Messenger history on Facebook itself is untouched.
