Overview

TikTok connects by one-click OAuth on /channels/tiktok. You click Connect TikTok, you are bounced to tiktok.com to authorize MessageMind on your TikTok Business Account, and brought straight back; nothing to copy or paste. After the OAuth round-trip MessageMind registers a webhook on your TikTok app so inbound direct messages land in the shared inbox. The connector only works for TikTok Business Accounts and is unavailable to accounts registered in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK; TikTok itself refuses Business Messaging for those regions.

What MessageMind can do with it

  • Reply to TikTok direct messages inside the shared inbox, with the AI picking up on-brand replies 24 hours a day.
  • One shared inbox: every TikTok DM lives alongside your Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and email threads for the same contact.
  • Send text and photos. TikTok handles read receipts and typing indicators for you.
  • Reconnect in one click if TikTok drops the authorization (the connected card surfaces a Reconnect TikTok button).
  • Register the TikTok webhook from the dashboard if TikTok refused it on the first try (Retry webhook button).

Requirements

  • A TikTok Business Account. Personal accounts cannot use TikTok Business Messaging; switch the account type in the TikTok app under Settings, Account.
  • Direct messages in the TikTok app set to allow messages from everyone. Otherwise each new conversation has to be accepted by hand before it reaches the inbox.
  • The account must NOT be registered in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK. TikTok Business Messaging is unavailable in those regions and the authorization fails at TikTok's end.

How to connect

  1. Open /channels/tiktok in the MessageMind dashboard and review the eligibility checklist (Business Account, DMs open to everyone, account not in EEA, Switzerland or UK).
  2. Click Connect TikTok. The browser leaves for tiktok.com, where you grant MessageMind access to Business Messaging on your account.
  3. Approve the authorization on TikTok. The browser bounces back to MessageMind with the result. On success a toast reads 'TikTok connected.'
  4. If TikTok refused the webhook registration during the callback, you will see 'Connected, but the TikTok webhook isn't registered yet, incoming DMs won't arrive until it is.' Click Retry webhook on the connected card; the loading toast reads 'Registering the TikTok webhook…' and success reads 'Webhook registered, incoming DMs will arrive now.'
  5. Send yourself a DM on TikTok to confirm it lands in the inbox and the AI replies in-thread.

Authentication and permissions

Mechanism
OAuth 2.0 with TikTok for Business. The browser authorizes once; MessageMind stores TikTok's access and refresh tokens server-side and renews them automatically.
Credentials
No credentials to paste. The dashboard shows the connected account name (or 'TikTok Business Account' as a fallback label) once the OAuth round-trip succeeds. There is no username or token field to copy.

Required scopes

  • TikTok Business Messaging: read inbound direct messages delivered to the authorized Business Account.
  • TikTok Business Messaging: send outbound direct messages on behalf of the account owner.

Available data and actions

Reads

  • The authorized TikTok Business Account identity (used as the display name on the connected card).
  • Inbound TikTok direct messages delivered to the webhook that MessageMind registers on your TikTok app after OAuth.
  • Webhook registration status, so the dashboard can surface the Retry webhook state if TikTok refused it.

Writes

  • Outbound TikTok direct messages (text and photos) through TikTok's Business Messaging API.
  • The TikTok webhook registration on your TikTok app so inbound DMs reach MessageMind.

AI agent use cases

  • Answer product and shipping questions from TikTok Shop viewers while the ad is still running, without staffing a dedicated TikTok inbox.
  • Give the AI full history across TikTok, Instagram and WhatsApp for the same customer once a shared identifier is available.
  • Reply to viral-video DMs within the 48-hour window TikTok allows for responding, without missing the surge of early messages.

Configuration

  • There is no setting to change on the MessageMind side after OAuth. The webhook registration is retried from the dashboard rather than through configuration.
  • To change the connected TikTok account, disconnect and run the OAuth round-trip again against the target account.

Example workflows

First-time OAuth connect

  1. Open /channels/tiktok. Confirm the three eligibility conditions on the Before you start checklist.
  2. Click Connect TikTok. The browser is redirected to tiktok.com for authorization.
  3. Approve MessageMind on your TikTok Business Account. The browser returns to /channels/tiktok and the dashboard shows the connected card with your account name.
  4. If the connected card says the webhook is not active, click Retry webhook. On success new DMs begin arriving immediately.

Recover a dropped authorization

  1. If TikTok has invalidated the authorization, the connected card status flips to disconnected and reads 'TikTok stopped accepting this authorization. Reconnect the account to resume receiving and sending DMs.'
  2. Click Reconnect TikTok on the card. The OAuth round-trip runs again against TikTok.
  3. After the browser returns, the connected card goes back to the live state ('You're live, TikTok direct messages route to your inbox, and replies go back into the same conversation.')

Limitations

  • 48-hour reply window. TikTok only lets businesses reply within 48 hours of the user's last message, and only after the user has sent a message first. Businesses cannot start a conversation.
  • Text and photos only. Documents, videos and voice notes cannot be sent, and photo DMs are unavailable in some markets.
  • EEA, Switzerland and UK content is stripped. Messages from users in those regions arrive without the message body; TikTok does not release it to partners.
  • Not available for TikTok accounts registered in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK. The OAuth flow succeeds for personal regions only.
  • Business Account only. Personal TikTok accounts cannot use Business Messaging and the authorization fails at TikTok's end.

Troubleshooting

A toast reads 'Could not start the TikTok connection.'

The MessageMind server could not get an authorization URL from TikTok. Confirm your network is not blocking tiktok.com, retry, and if it still fails confirm your TikTok app configuration on TikTok for Business is live.

A toast reads 'Could not connect TikTok.'

TikTok refused the authorization callback. Common causes: the account is a personal (not Business) account, DMs are not set to allow messages from everyone, or the account is registered in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK.

The connected card says 'Connected, but the direct-message webhook isn't active yet, so new DMs won't arrive.'

Click Retry webhook on the card. On success the toast reads 'Webhook registered, incoming DMs will arrive now.' If TikTok refuses again, confirm the Business Messaging permission is still granted on your TikTok app.

The connected card says TikTok stopped accepting this authorization.

TikTok invalidated the token (common after a password change or scope revocation on the TikTok side). Click Reconnect TikTok to run the OAuth round-trip again.

A reply fails because the thread is older than two days.

You are outside TikTok's 48-hour reply window. TikTok blocks businesses from replying after that window, and only the user can restart the conversation by sending a new message.

DMs from EEA, Swiss or UK users show no body text.

This is a TikTok-side rule. TikTok delivers the metadata but not the content for users in those regions. There is no setting that changes this.

Disconnect and reconnect

  • On /channels/tiktok, click Disconnect on the top-right of the connected card. The confirmation toast reads 'TikTok disconnected.' and the stored OAuth tokens are cleared.
  • After disconnect, MessageMind stops sending and receiving TikTok DMs. Any inbound events TikTok still fires are discarded because no account claims the webhook.
  • To reconnect, click Connect TikTok and complete the OAuth round-trip again. The same account or a different Business Account is both fine.
