Shopify AI Integration: How It Works and How to Connect It
The Shopify AI integration lets MessageMind's AI agent read live Shopify data and reply across WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram, email and web chat.
The Shopify AI integration connects Shopify to MessageMind so an AI agent can read live context and reply across every channel your customers use. Connect your Shopify store so the AI agent can look up orders, answer product questions and check live stock. You connect it from Connections > Integrations with your store name and the Client ID and Client Secret of a Shopify app you own, then approve the access on Shopify. The connection only reads from your store.
What is the Shopify AI integration?
Connect your Shopify store so the AI agent can look up orders, answer product questions and check live stock. You connect it from Connections > Integrations with your store name and the Client ID and Client Secret of a Shopify app you own, then approve the access on Shopify. The connection only reads from your store. A new order can also start a campaign, for example a WhatsApp thank-you to the buyer.
You can see every supported integration on the MessageMind integrations page, and the full technical reference for this one lives in the Shopify documentation. If you prefer to see it in action first, book a demo and we will walk you through the live flow.
What the Shopify integration can do
The Shopify AI integration ships with the following capabilities out of the box:
- The AI agent finds an order by its number and tells the customer where it stands: fulfillment and payment status, items, totals, shipping method, tracking and refunds.
- Products you import into AI Training can be suggested by the AI agent with their prices, options and product page links.
- With Sync Products on, products you add, edit or delete in Shopify are updated in your catalog.
- Live stock checks lets the AI agent read the current stock of the exact product or option a customer asks about.
- You can describe each order status in your own words, and the AI agent uses that description when it explains an order.
- A campaign with the Order Created trigger starts for every new Shopify order, and the buyer is added to your contacts.
Data read and written
The Shopify AI integration touches a scoped set of fields. Here is exactly what moves between the two systems:
| Direction | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Read | Orders, found by order number: fulfillment and payment status, items with their options, quantities, SKUs and prices, subtotal, shipping, tax, discounts and total, shipping method and payment method. |
| Read | Shipments on an order, with carrier, tracking number, tracking link, shipped date, delivered date and estimated delivery. |
| Read | Refunds, cancellations with their reason, return status and the order note. |
| Read | The customer on the order, partly hidden: first name and last initial, a masked email, the last four digits of the phone, the city, region, country and postcode of the addresses, and how many orders they have placed. |
| Read | Your active products when you import them: name, description, product type, price, options with their prices, SKU, pictures and product page link. |
How to set up the Shopify AI integration
Setup takes a few minutes once your Shopify account is live. The outline:
- In the Shopify Dev Dashboard, open Apps and then your app.
- Add MessageMind's redirect URL to the app's allowed redirect URLs. MessageMind support gives you the URL (Help in the top bar).
- Copy the app's Client ID and Client Secret.
- Look up your store name. It's the part before .myshopify.com in your store's myshopify.com address, which Shopify lists under Settings > Domains.
- In MessageMind, open Connections > Integrations.
- Find the Shopify row under Ecommerce, or search for it.
The step-by-step walkthrough, including every button and field, is in the Shopify documentation.
Use cases for the Shopify AI integration
Teams typically turn the Shopify AI integration on to:
- A customer writes on WhatsApp: "Where is my order 1042?" The AI agent looks it up and replies that it shipped yesterday, with the carrier and the tracking link.
- Someone on your website chat asks whether the hoodie comes in medium. The AI agent checks the live stock of that option in Shopify and answers.
- A shopper on Instagram describes the gift they are looking for. The AI agent suggests matching products from your imported catalog with prices and links.
- A customer asks if their refund went through. The AI agent reads the refund amount and date from the order.
- Your orders sit as Unfulfilled for a day or two. You describe that status once, and the AI agent tells worried customers the order is being packed.

Limitations to know
The Shopify integration ships with a deliberately scoped surface. These are the limits worth knowing before you depend on it:
- MessageMind only reads from Shopify. The AI agent can't create, edit or cancel orders, issue refunds, send payment links or change products and customers.
- Orders are found by order number only. A customer who doesn't have the number can't be looked up by name or email.
- The AI agent doesn't ask for the email or phone on an order before sharing it. Anyone with a valid order number gets the order's status, items and tracking, with the buyer's contact details partly hidden.
- Orders placed more than 60 days ago can't be found. Shopify only lets apps read the last 60 days of orders unless they request access to all orders, and this connection doesn't.
- The AI agent can't read out a buyer's full email, phone number or street address.
Pricing and plan availability
The Shopify AI integration is available on MessageMind's paid plans. The MessageMind pricing page lists which plan is required and what each tier includes. There is no extra per-integration fee; the connection is part of your account.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Shopify AI integration?
The Shopify AI integration is the native connection between Shopify and MessageMind. Once connected, the AI agent can read live Shopify context during a conversation and act on it (for example answering a stock question, booking an appointment or updating a contact) across WhatsApp, Instagram, SMS, email and web chat.
How do I connect Shopify to MessageMind?
Open the Shopify integration page inside your MessageMind dashboard and follow the connect flow. The full step-by-step with every field label and screenshot is in the Shopify documentation.
How does authentication work for the Shopify integration?
You paste your Shopify app's Client ID and Client Secret into MessageMind, click Connect and approve the access on Shopify. There is nothing to renew afterwards. MessageMind stores these credentials encrypted at rest and uses them only server-side, so they never reach the browser or any third party.
What does the AI agent do once Shopify is connected?
It works with live Shopify data during the conversation. The first capability in the Shopify documentation reads: "The AI agent finds an order by its number and tells the customer where it stands: fulfillment and payment status, items, totals, shipping method, tracking and refunds." The full list, with every field the integration reads and writes, is in the documentation.
Connect stays greyed out in the window and it says "Complete the required fields to connect." What should I do?
Fill in all three fields: Store Name, Client ID and Client Secret.
