WooCommerce AI Integration: How It Works and How to Connect It
The WooCommerce AI integration lets MessageMind's AI agent read live WooCommerce data and reply across WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram, email and web chat.
The WooCommerce AI integration connects WooCommerce to MessageMind so an AI agent can read live context and reply across every channel your customers use. Connect WooCommerce so the AI agent can look up your customers' orders and answer questions about your products. You connect it from Connections > Integrations with your store address and a Read/Write REST API key that you create in WordPress.
What is the WooCommerce AI integration?
Connect WooCommerce so the AI agent can look up your customers' orders and answer questions about your products. You connect it from Connections > Integrations with your store address and a Read/Write REST API key that you create in WordPress. Once it is connected, you can also use your WooCommerce orders in campaigns and let the AI agent create unpaid orders that customers pay on your own checkout page.
You can see every supported integration on the MessageMind integrations page, and the full technical reference for this one lives in the WooCommerce documentation. If you prefer to see it in action first, book a demo and we will walk you through the live flow.
What the WooCommerce integration can do
The WooCommerce AI integration ships with the following capabilities out of the box:
- When a customer gives an order number, the AI agent finds the order in your store and tells them its status, totals, shipping details and the updates written in the order notes.
- Before sharing anything about an order, the AI agent asks for the email address on the order (or the phone number, when the order has no email) and checks that it matches.
- Order numbers changed by a plugin, such as numbers with letters in front, can be looked up too.
- Your published products can be imported into AI Training, so the AI agent can recommend them and quote prices, options and product links.
- With Sync Products on, products you publish, edit or delete in WooCommerce are updated in AI Training as well.
- With Let the AI take orders on, the AI agent prices a basket against your live store, offers your delivery options with their cost, creates an unpaid order and sends the customer your store's payment link.
- Campaigns can start when an order is placed (Order Created) or moves from one status to another (Order Status Changed), for any order or only orders with certain products. The same two events can also be used as a campaign goal.
Data read and written
The WooCommerce AI integration touches a scoped set of fields. Here is exactly what moves between the two systems:
| Direction | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Read | Orders, found by order number: status, totals, payment method, billing and shipping details, custom fields added by your plugins (a tracking number, for example) and all order notes, private notes included. |
| Read | Published products when you import them or while Sync Products is on: name, descriptions, price, variations and their options, category, tags, images, SKU and product link. |
| Read | Your store's currency and order statuses, custom statuses included, which campaign steps offer as choices. |
| Read | Past orders matching a contact's email or phone, for the Customer purchased condition. Cancelled, refunded, failed and unpaid orders don't count as purchases. |
| Read | New orders and status changes, once you have saved a campaign that uses a WooCommerce trigger. The billing name, email and phone on the order add the buyer to your contacts or update them. |
| Write | Coupons from the Create Coupon action. In WooCommerce they carry the description Created by a MessageMind automation. |
| Write | Order statuses, changed by the Change Order Status action. |
| Write | Unpaid orders with the status Pending payment, when Let the AI take orders is on. If nobody pays in time, the order is moved to Cancelled with a note. |
| Write | Entries whose names start with MessageMind, under WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > Webhooks. Your store uses them to tell MessageMind about new orders and product changes. They are added when you turn on Sync Products or save a campaign that uses a WooCommerce trigger or goal. |
How to set up the WooCommerce AI integration
Setup takes a few minutes once your WooCommerce account is live. The outline:
- In your WordPress admin, open WooCommerce > Settings > Advanced > REST API.
- Click Add key. On a store with no keys yet, the button reads Create an API key.
- Enter a Description you will recognise later, such as MessageMind.
- In User, choose an administrator account. The key can only do what that WordPress user is allowed to do.
- Set Permissions to Read/Write and click Generate API key.
- Leave this page open. WooCommerce shows the Consumer key and Consumer secret only once.
The step-by-step walkthrough, including every button and field, is in the WooCommerce documentation.
Use cases for the WooCommerce AI integration
Teams typically turn the WooCommerce AI integration on to:
- A customer writes on WhatsApp: "Any news on order 10452?" The AI agent asks for the email used at checkout, checks it, and replies with the status and the tracking number your shipping plugin added to the order.
- A visitor on your website chat asks for a waterproof jacket under 100. The AI agent searches your imported products and answers with a few matching jackets, their prices and links.
- Someone on Instagram wants a ticket for a workshop you sell in WooCommerce. The AI agent prices it, takes their name, email and billing address, and sends a link to pay on your checkout.
- Each new order starts a campaign that sends a thank-you message with the order number and total.
- When an order moves from Processing to Completed, a campaign creates a coupon only that customer can use and sends it with a request for a review.

Limitations to know
The WooCommerce integration ships with a deliberately scoped surface. These are the limits worth knowing before you depend on it:
- Product import and sync, campaign triggers, coupons, order status changes, the Customer purchased condition and orders taken by the AI agent all use the store you entered in the Connect to WooCommerce window. Stores added under Stores are used for order lookups only.
- If you rename a store you added under Stores and save, its key and secret are lost and the AI agent can no longer look up its orders. To rename one, remove it and add it again with its key and secret.
- If Odoo is also connected and Let your AI look up sales orders is on in its settings, the AI agent looks up orders in Odoo, not in WooCommerce.
- When it looks up an order, the AI agent doesn't see which products are on it.
- If a plugin changes your order numbers, the AI agent looks for the custom number among your 250 most recent orders, so it may not find an older order by that number.
Pricing and plan availability
The WooCommerce AI integration is available on MessageMind's paid plans. The MessageMind pricing page lists which plan is required and what each tier includes. There is no extra per-integration fee; the connection is part of your account.
Frequently asked questions
What is the WooCommerce AI integration?
The WooCommerce AI integration is the native connection between WooCommerce and MessageMind. Once connected, the AI agent can read live WooCommerce context during a conversation and act on it (for example answering a stock question, booking an appointment or updating a contact) across WhatsApp, Instagram, SMS, email and web chat.
How do I connect WooCommerce to MessageMind?
Open the WooCommerce integration page inside your MessageMind dashboard and follow the connect flow. The full step-by-step with every field label and screenshot is in the WooCommerce documentation.
How does authentication work for the WooCommerce integration?
A WooCommerce REST API key. You create it in your WordPress admin and paste it into MessageMind together with your store address. There is no sign-in window to go through. MessageMind stores these credentials encrypted at rest and uses them only server-side, so they never reach the browser or any third party.
What does the AI agent do once WooCommerce is connected?
It works with live WooCommerce data during the conversation. The first capability in the WooCommerce documentation reads: "When a customer gives an order number, the AI agent finds the order in your store and tells them its status, totals, shipping details and the updates written in the order notes." The full list, with every field the integration reads and writes, is in the documentation.
Connect stays greyed out and the window says "Complete the required fields to connect." What should I do?
Fill in all three fields: Store URL, Consumer Key and Consumer Secret.
