Google Maps AI Integration: How It Works and How to Connect It
The Google Maps AI integration lets MessageMind's AI agent read live Google Maps data and reply across WhatsApp, SMS, Instagram, email and web chat.
The Google Maps AI integration connects Google Maps to MessageMind so an AI agent can read live context and reply across every channel your customers use. Search Locations is the built-in tool that lets your AI agent use Google Maps to find places, opening hours and travel times for your customers. There is no Google account to connect and no key to paste. On the Integrations page it is listed as Search Locations, not Google Maps.
What is the Google Maps AI integration?
Search Locations is the built-in tool that lets your AI agent use Google Maps to find places, opening hours and travel times for your customers. There is no Google account to connect and no key to paste. On the Integrations page it is listed as Search Locations, not Google Maps. Finishing the AI agent setup turns it on, so you will usually find it already active.
You can see every supported integration on the MessageMind integrations page, and the full technical reference for this one lives in the Google Maps documentation. If you prefer to see it in action first, book a demo and we will walk you through the live flow.
What the Google Maps integration can do
The Google Maps AI integration ships with the following capabilities out of the box:
- Find places of a given kind near an address, a landmark or a town, for example pharmacies near the central station, and list them closest first.
- For each place found, give the address, the distance, the Google rating, the website, today's opening hours and whether it is open right now, when Google Maps has them.
- Look up one named place and give its address, phone number, rating and opening hours, including its usual hours on another day such as next Monday.
- Work out how long it takes to get from one address to a place on foot, by public transport and by car. Driving times include current traffic.
- For public transport, name the lines to take, the number of stops, the departure and arrival times and, where Google Maps has it, the fare. It can offer up to three different routes.
- Read a Google Maps link a customer pastes, short links included, and work out the address it points to.
- Give the full address, postal code, time zone and current local time of a town or address.
Data read and written
The Google Maps AI integration touches a scoped set of fields. Here is exactly what moves between the two systems:
| Direction | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Read | Places that match a search near an address, with their distance from it. |
| Read | A place's name, address, phone number and website. |
| Read | Its Google star rating and the number of reviews. |
| Read | Today's opening hours, the usual hours for another day of the week, and whether the place is open now. |
| Read | Walking, public transport and driving times and distances between two addresses, with current traffic for driving. |
How to set up the Google Maps AI integration
Setup takes a few minutes once your Google Maps account is live. The outline:
- Open Connections > Integrations.
- Type location in the search box, or click Vacation Rentals in the left rail. Search Locations is listed there whatever your type of business.
- Find the Search Locations row. Its description starts with "Integrate Google Maps to enable the AI to search locations". If the status icon shows a tick and the button reads Deactivate, it is already on and you can stop here.
- Click Activate. No window opens and there is nothing to fill in. The button reads Activating... for a moment, then "Platform Connected!" appears.
- Check that the status icon now shows a tick and the button reads Deactivate.
- Wait a few minutes before testing, because the AI agent can take that long to pick up the change.
The step-by-step walkthrough, including every button and field, is in the Google Maps documentation.
Use cases for the Google Maps AI integration
Teams typically turn the Google Maps AI integration on to:
- A holiday-rental guest asks on WhatsApp for a supermarket near the apartment that is still open. The AI agent lists the closest ones, says which are open now and adds a map link for each.
- A caller asks how long the drive from the airport to your clinic takes right now. The AI agent gives an estimate that includes current traffic.
- A customer without a car asks how to reach your shop from the train station. The AI agent names the bus or metro line and the number of stops, and gives the walking time as an alternative.
- A customer pastes a Google Maps link to a restaurant and asks if it is close to your venue. The AI agent reads the address from the link and can then check the route from you.
- A visitor asks whether a museum near you is open next Monday. The AI agent checks the hours Google Maps lists for Mondays.

Limitations to know
The Google Maps integration ships with a deliberately scoped surface. These are the limits worth knowing before you depend on it:
- It reads public Google Maps information only. It is not linked to your Google account or Google Business Profile, so it cannot change your listing or reply to reviews.
- It sees the star rating and the number of reviews, not what the reviews say.
- The hours it quotes are the place's regular weekly hours. Holiday hours and one-off closures may not show, although whether a place is open right now is current.
- Travel times come as a duration and a distance, plus the lines to take on public transport. There are no turn-by-turn directions; the customer opens the Google Maps link for those.
- Routes cover walking, public transport and driving. Cycling is not available.
Pricing and plan availability
The Google Maps AI integration is available on MessageMind's paid plans. The MessageMind pricing page lists which plan is required and what each tier includes. There is no extra per-integration fee; the connection is part of your account.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Google Maps AI integration?
The Google Maps AI integration is the native connection between Google Maps and MessageMind. Once connected, the AI agent can read live Google Maps context during a conversation and act on it (for example answering a stock question, booking an appointment or updating a contact) across WhatsApp, Instagram, SMS, email and web chat.
How do I connect Google Maps to MessageMind?
Open the Google Maps integration page inside your MessageMind dashboard and follow the connect flow. The full step-by-step with every field label and screenshot is in the Google Maps documentation.
Is the Google Maps integration secure?
Yes. Wherever an integration needs credentials, MessageMind stores them encrypted at rest and uses them only server-side. The Google Maps documentation lists exactly what this integration reads and writes, and the security page describes the platform controls.
What does the AI agent do once Google Maps is connected?
It works with live Google Maps data during the conversation. The first capability in the Google Maps documentation reads: "Find places of a given kind near an address, a landmark or a town, for example pharmacies near the central station, and list them closest first." The full list, with every field the integration reads and writes, is in the documentation.
You type Google Maps in the search box on the Integrations page and see "No integrations match your search." What should I do?
The row is called Search Locations. Clear the search box and type location instead.
